Nine Mile Falls Dam

The Nine Mile Falls Dam, built in 1908, was purchased from the Inland Empire Railway and Power Company in 1925.

This Spokane River project was redeveloped during 1993-1994, upgrading equipment and replacing two of the four vintage turbines. Most of the Nine Mile hydroelectric site is within a National Historic District and the facilities are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Small brick cottages, built in the late 1920s, once provided housing for maintenance and operations personnel at the Nine Mile Project. The cottages were last occupied by Avista (WWP) personnel in the early 1980s.

The 1,353-acre Little Spokane River Natural Area surrounds the Nine Mile Project site.

The Nine Mile Falls Dam is one of Avista Energy's hydro power sources.
