SCOUT JOURNAL BY: TYLER CRUME
Last Friday through Sunday, the boys of Boy Scout Troop 19 went camping at the historical Spokane House. They learned how to lash together poles with rope using four different types of lashings. Those were the square, diagonal, shear and tripod lashings. After that, the boys competed to see who could lash the fastest in teams of two. The winners were Kyle Evans and Tyler Crume with a time of 4:41.
At 10:00 Am Sunday morning, a court of honor was held. A court of honor is just another name for an award ceremony. The boy who earned the most merit badges over the summer was Rand Tucker. Attendants: Kevin McMillen, Michael and Ryan Rojeski, Trey and Cameron Martin, Tyler Zoesch, Ben Dring, Keith and Rand Tucker, Kyle Evans, Tyler Crume, Connor Coates, Webelo Scout Joe, The fathers that stayed to help were Mr. Stuchell, Mr. Needham, Mr. Coates, Mr. Dring & Mr. McMillen.

MERIT BADGE & ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS
Congratulations to all of the Scouts & Parents for their hard work & dedication. 113 Merit Badges were earned by the boys over the summer months.
KEY TOPICS FROM PREVIOUS MEETINGS
The Camp Easton campout is scheduled for October 13th, 14th & 15th. We will focus on camp site improvement of the adopted Troop 19 camp site. Scouts & their Fathers are welcome to attend & assist. We will be working on the proper elements required during campsite inspections to insure Troop 19 will obtain awards at upcoming Boy Scout functions.
Scuba Diving certification is being discussed as a possible program at Camp Easton in 2007. Scouts must be a minimum of 14 years of age to participate. Fee will be based on the number of participants. A commitment will need to be made by February 2007. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain certification & have a fun week learning to scuba dive. Please contact Mr. Stuchell for details. We will be working over the coming month to coordinate our Merit Badge Counseling for the upcoming year. Please give thought to any merit badges you would like the Troop to focus on or if you would be willing to volunteer to assist.
We will be working on the Citizenship of the Nation Merit Badge over the coming weeks. Please be sure to bring the preliminary draft of your letter that you are planning to send to your Representative or Senator to the next meeting on Monday, October 2nd. Thank you to Mr. Dinsmore for providing your assistance as Merit Badge Counselor for this project. Claire Snodgrass will be working on Citizenship of the Community with the younger scouts.
